Home / Student Life / Service

Service is a foundational piece of our school identity and our religion program at Snows.  Our students participate in a variety of service projects designed to give them hands-on, age appropriate opportunities to learn about Catholic social justice teachings.   Our school service projects expose students to opportunities to serve both locally and globally. These projects aim to give students a deeper and broader understanding of what service truly means as they progress through their years here at Snows.  Service projects for the current year are:

Kindergarten through 3rd grade – service to our school and parish.

Students help maintain our school and parish grounds, write greeting cards for parishioners in assisted living facilities, write cards and spiritual bouquets for parish members participating in sacraments and surprise our school community with random acts of kindness.

4th through 7th grade – service to our community.

Students in these grades participate in a variety of projects to aid those in need in our greater Reno community.  They hold food drives for Sr. Carmen’s pantry and participate in filling and donating stockings and Easter baskets for Catholic Charities.  Our 6th and 7th grade students work with a local charity to assist children being sheltered at Kids Kottage.  Our 4/5 Image class students have contributed their time and talent to make and donate pottery bowls for the Empty Bowls fundraiser, helping the Northern Nevada Food Bank and Sparks Gospel Mission.

8th grade – global service.

Our 8th grade class works to raise funds to sponsor the education of a young girl in Ethiopia.  Through bake sales they have raised over $500 and provided a full year of schooling.  They have also worked to educate the rest of our school community on this project and on the importance of education to help alleviate poverty and injustice.
